The following comments were received from some of the over 1,000 attendees and exhibitors to the highly successful 2009 Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada Conference held in St. John's Newfoundland and Labrador in June.

I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the ORNAC meeting this past week in St. John's, Newfoundland. You are to be commended for your wonderful organization of the conference itself, as well as the amazing social activities!!! Many thanks from myself and my colleagues in Toronto who were all very impressed with how you handled the 'mass' of us that descended on this wonderful city for a week!!!

I have just today returned to Calgary from the meeting in St. John's and I would like to please pass on to all of the organizers a huge thank-you for all of the time and effort put in to making this a spectacular meeting. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the talks, the poster presentations, the vendor representation, and of course the evening events. The evening at The Rooms was spectacular, and the "Rally in the Alley" unsurpassed. We truly experienced the warm hospitality of Newfoundlanders.

The Canadian Seed Trade Association has been so fortunate to hold two meetings in the beautiful city of St. John’s Newfoundland. The first was held in July 2000 and the feedback from that meeting from all delegates and their families was incredible. Our family fun event took place on a Monday afternoon and evening, and began at Bay Bulls where we embarked on a whale-watching adventure which I am sure can never be surpassed – absolutely perfect weather, with the sun shining, the water calm, and whales around every boat – providing the best photo opportunity ever experienced for our delegates and their families.

The comments from everyone who attended that meeting almost all focused on the friendliness of the Newfoundland people, and how lucky they felt to experience this unique part of our country, most of them for the very first time.

The meeting was so popular that we decided to hold our annual meeting in St. John’s once again in July 2008, with almost the same success in our second whale-watching experience some eight years later. Our Newfoundland hosts offered hospitality that is seldom experienced elsewhere, and our fabulous Destination Management Company, McCarthy’s Party, exceeded our expectations for the second time.

We’ll be back…………….

Thanks for the Hospitality...

I visited St. John's for the first time last week for a conference, and my arrival happily coincided with the Junos. Although the weather was not particularly spring-like, I was thoroughly impressed and amazed by the friendliness of your city and the beauty of the surroundings. Everyone was kind and helpful, from the cabbies to the restaurant and hotel staff, to people on the street. My colleague and I were given an impromptu tour of the city by George Squires (a retired high school teacher), who we met walking his dog Charlie by the harbour Sunday morning. When we told George of our plan to walk to Signal Hill from George Street, he insisted it was too far and that he would drive us to the top once he had finished his dog walk. The trip up Signal Hill turned into a tour of Quidi Vidi, downtown, Memorial University, the Janeway (we are health-care professionals), and back to our hotel. I'm returning next month for another work meeting, but this time will take some vacation time afterwards to explore more of your amazing province (lucky me!) and I will be suggesting Newfoundland as a vacation destination to friends and family. Thanks for a great time. I'm looking forward to being back next month.

Our delegates had an outstanding time on "the rock" and took in many of the sites during their stay. We hit close to record numbers with 510 registered delegates (registration sold out May 4), 52 exhibiting companies (show sold out in march). To top it off - the kind hospitality that we experienced throughout our event contributed to the success and uniqueness of the conference. We would gladly recommend holding an event in St. John's to colleagues from other organizations.
